The Metro NY Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women, in collaboration with Councilwoman Laurie A. Cumbo – Chair of the Committee on Women’s Issues, will host the Cities for CEDAW Events in NYC.

What is CEDAW? The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of DiscriminationAgainst Women (CEDAW) is the international women’s rights treaty. While 188 nations have ratified CEDAW, the United States remains the only industrialized nation NOT to ratify CEDAW.

What is Cities for CEDAW? San Francisco and Los Angeles have both passed a CEDAW city ordinance and it has made a measurable difference in public safety, budgetary allocations and employment. We need CEDAW in New York City now because it will help end violence against women, close the wage gap, and release women’s full potential at all levels!
